Sustainability Week Switzerland is a nationwide network of student-led sustainability weeks that makes sustainability visible and tangible at higher education institutions across Switzerland.
The initiative was originally launched by the umbrella organisation of Swiss student organisations for sustainability (VSN). Since 2026, it has been continued and further developed by VSS-UNES-USU.
Sustainability Week is part of VSS-UNES-USU’s commitment to fostering a sustainable higher education landscape. The VSS position paper on sustainability provides an important framework, outlining its positions and priorities regarding sustainability at Swiss higher education institutions.
Sustainability Week is driven by the local engagement of students. At higher education institutions across Switzerland, student teams organise their own sustainability weeks, creating diverse programmes on sustainability with different themes and priorities tailored to their local context. Sustainability Week Switzerland brings these local initiatives together in a nationwide network. It promotes exchange between teams, creates synergies and supports the sharing of experiences and ideas across different higher education institutions and locations.
We empower students to actively shape and embed sustainability across all areas of higher education institutions. Our vision is for students to actively contribute to the sustainable development of their institutions and, in doing so, help drive progress towards a more sustainable society.

Sustainability Week brings sustainability onto campuses, raises awareness of current sustainability issues and encourages students to take action themselves. We empower students to actively shape sustainability across all areas of higher education institutions and help embed it in the long term.
At the same time, the network helps strengthen student engagement over the long term and further embeds sustainability in everyday life at higher education institutions.
We support students and local Sustainability Weeks in bringing their ideas and projects to life. To this end, we provide knowledge, experience, and resources from our network. Further information can be found in our concept paper
