The Association of Swiss Student Bodies (VSS) is pleased to note the latest outcome of the negotiations. At an institutional level, the way is now clear for Switzerland to rejoin the Erasmus+ program. It is incomprehensible that accession is not possible until 2027 due to the lack of a funding message.
Thanks to the concluded agreement, association with Erasmus+ is possible, but the Federal Council is aiming for Switzerland to participate from January 1, 2027 and must apply to Parliament for the necessary funding. In recent years, various stakeholders have already called for the necessary preparatory work to be undertaken through various standing initiatives and other initiatives. This timeframe was foreseeable, which is why the VSS had already called for the financing message to be submitted this year.
Participation is crucial for vocational education and training, students and extracurricular education. Julia Bogdan, Co-President of the VSS, comments: “Erasmus+ offers students invaluable opportunities for international experience, academic collaboration and personal development. We regret the delay, but are confident that the necessary steps will be taken to enable Switzerland’s integration into this important European program.” The VSS will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities to support the swift and effective implementation of re-association and to represent the interests of student bodies in Switzerland.
The VSS strongly welcomes the non-discrimination of Swiss students abroad and vice versa. It enables the effective exchange of ideas and knowledge throughout Europe.
